What is Geocaching?

Geocaching is a real world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS enabled devices.  The most commonly used devices are handheld GPS devices and smart cell phones.

People who are Geocaching (called Geocachers) navigate to a specific set of GPS Co-ordinates (Latitude and Longitude) and then attempt to find the Geocache container hidden at those co-ordinates.  The Geocache is usually within 20-30 feet of the geocache coordinates.

Prince Gallitzin State Park Geocache Adventures!

C. R. Chippy has been busy creating two geocache adventures at Prince Galliztin State Park.

The Prince Gallitzin State Park Campground Adventure  (PGSPGA)  includes 10 geocaches placed along the Campground Trail.  This adventure will take you on a 2+-Mile walking/biking trail as it loops around the Campground.

The Prince Gallitzin State Park Geocaching Adventure (PRGA)  includes 17 Geocaches hidden all around Prince Gallitzin State Park.

Each of the geocaches in the two adventures have activities to read and do to learn more about Prince Gallitzin State Park and Geocaching.

Crooked Run Campground Geocache Adventure

This geocaching adventure will take you on a 2-mile walk/bike trail at  Prince Gallitzin State Park.  The trail loops around the outside perimeter of the Crooked Run Campground.

I have placed 10 geocaches for you to find on this adventure.

Each one describes something interesting about Prince Gallitzin State Park.  You will have lots of fun learning about my park and about some of the fun things that the campers do throughout the camping season.

And for extra fun, there is an Activity Page below that you can download and print before you come, or you can pick one up at the Park Office or Campground Office.  Find all ten geocaches and complete the Activity Page, and I will issue you a Certificate of Completion!

Walking or biking is a must on this adventure.

Parking is available at the Visitor Parking Lot at the entrance to the Crooked Run Campground!

Just think of the exercise you will get!!  And you may meet some of my campground friends along the way!

Caches 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10 are Pet-friendly.  Only cache 7 is in the “No Pet Area” of the Campground, so your pet won’t be able to help you find this cache.

I have placed all ten geocaches within 75 feet of the trail.  So… stay on the campground trail until you get near the coordinates.  I want to protect my forest friend’s natural environment.   Please don’t bushwhack a new trail to the caches.

To begin your adventure, click on the pictures below to print out your Instruction, Activity, and Locations/Coordinates pages.

Happy geocaching!!!
